6 of the Best Pubs in the Peak District

When the weather gets a bit chilly, there's nothing more comforting than the crackling sound of the log burner as you scan a fabulous pub-grub menu. Likewise, when the weather gets warmer, the first place we crave is a friendly beer garden for a crisp, cold drink.

There are so many wonderful pubs in the Peak District that it's impossible to name them all. This list is comprised of our personal favourite pubs and each of them are less than 8 miles from Hartington Hills.

1. Black Lion Inn

Tucked away and lesser-known, the Black Lion serves truly delicious food. Run by a husband and wife team, they have maintained its traditional interior whilst elevating its food far above greasy pub-grub. This is a true gem that only those who know, know. Situated just above the Manifold Trail, it's a fabulous stop-off when heading that way. Black Lion Inn , Butterton, ST13 7SP - 4.3 miles from Hartington Hills.

2. The Reform Inn

A warm, vibrant and inviting pub nestled in a small village outside Leek, The Reform Inn offers delicious food, friendly service and a great drinks selection in a relaxed and comfortable environment. We highly recommend the three cheese and leek pie! The Reform Inn, Thorncliffe, ST13 7LP - 7.5 miles from Hartington Hills

3. The Devonshire Arms

Recently renovated and offering a large selection of food and drink, this pub is situated in the heart of the village of Hartington. With its undeniably beautiful architecture, sitting outside the 'Dev' with a cold drink whilst the sun sets over the village is one of our favourite pasttimes. Roaring fires in the winter and a large beer garden to the rear are also available here. The Devonshire Arms, Hartington, SK17 0AL - 1.8 miles from Hartington Hills.

4. The Manifold Inn

Our very own Manifold Inn. With possibly the best beer garden of all, catch the sunset here in the Summer or enjoy a homemade pie by the fire in the Winter. There's not much we don't love about this old coaching inn. Just a 10-minute stroll from Hartington Hills, this friendly pub is favoured by the locals - which is never a bad sign. It gets incredibly busy in the high season so make sure to book ahead! The Manifold Inn, Hulme End, SK17 0EX - 0.7 miles from Hartington Hills.

5. The Royal Oak

This well known, award-winning pub is renowned for its friendly atmosphere and delicious food. With their staple menu as well as seasonal menus, the Royal Oak has options for everyone. They also have a great selection of wines, beers and spirits to accompany their extensive menu. The Royal Oak is also situated at the start of the Tissington Trail - ideal for cyclists and walkers alike. The Royal Oak, Hurdlow, SK17 9QJ - 7.7 miles from Hartington Hills.

6. The Greyhound Inn

With an on-site micro brewery and a focus on local food, community and inclusivity, this family-run pub is great for everyone. A great selection of beers and a diverse, reasonably priced menu is available. Situated close to the moors, it's a great stopping point after a long moorland walk or is worth the journey for beer-lovers. The Greyhound Inn, Warslow, SK17 0JN - 2.4 miles from Hartington Hills.

Now you know our most favourite local pubs, all of which are walking or cycling distance from Hartington Hills. We hope you find this Peak District pub guide useful for your stay and if you come across any other great pubs while you're staying here, please let us know!
